USCCA® Children’s Firearm Safety Class for Girl Scouts

In-Person Event | March 7 | Southern Nevada Girl Scout Council
Presented by Defense in Heels® | USCCA Certified Instructor

Firearm safety isn’t optional — it’s essential. 🔒✨
This USCCA® Children’s Firearm Safety class is designed to give Girl Scouts clear, age-appropriate, and empowering safety education around firearms. The focus is awareness, prevention, and smart decision-making, not fear and not shooting.

This class meets Girl Scouts where they are developmentally and gives parents peace of mind that their scout knows exactly what to do — and what not to do — around firearms.

Why Firearm Safety Education Matters

Whether or not your family owns firearms, children are statistically likely to encounter one at some point — at a friend’s house, a relative’s home, or in the community.

This class teaches girls how to:

  • Recognize potentially dangerous situations
  • Make safe choices under pressure
  • Remove themselves from unsafe environments
  • Speak up to a trusted adult

Knowledge reduces curiosity, panic, and risk.

What Girls Learn in the USCCA® Children’s Firearm Safety Class

🔐 Core Firearm Safety Rules

Scouts will learn:

  • The fundamental rules of firearm safety in clear, kid-friendly language
  • Why firearms are not toys — even if they look small or unfamiliar
  • What to do if they see a firearm at home, a friend’s house, or in public

🚨 If You See a Firearm: What To Do

Girls are taught a simple, repeatable response:

  • Stop
  • Don’t touch
  • Leave the area
  • Tell a trusted adult

We practice scenarios so the response becomes automatic — even in high-stress moments.

🏡 Safety at Home & With Friends

Age-appropriate discussions include:

  • Visiting friends’ homes
  • Sleepovers and playdates
  • What to do if another child wants to show them a firearm
  • Understanding safe vs. unsafe adult behavior
  • Why curiosity can be dangerous — and how to handle it

💬 Communication & Confidence

Girls will also build:

  • Confidence to say “no” and walk away
  • Skills to speak up without fear or embarrassment
  • Respect for themselves and others
  • Better decision-making skills in real-life situations
